What are Your Manicure Stories?

Are your manicure stories good or bad? Do you love going to the local nail salon for polish and gossip or does the process sound tedious to you? Some women love getting their fingernails done, while others hate it. It's all a matter of personal preference. If you can't imagine having some stranger working on your hands, why not do your own manicures? It's easy and fun to do your own nails. You just need some supplies and a bit of practice.

First, make sure you've got the basics. You'll need nail polish remover for taking off old polish and prepping the nails for color. Nail polish remover is not only used to take off polish, but also to remove moisturizer from the nail surface. Most everyone uses lotion as part of their manicure to moisturize the hands and nails. However, moisturizer can ruin your polish job. A quick swipe of polish remover takes care of that problem and prepares your nails for the base coat.

Speaking of the base coat, choose a clear strengthening formula designed to get the nails ready for polish. Allow the base coat to dry completely before moving onto the colored polish. When painting your nails, start with one center stripe then two swipes down the side of each nail for perfect coverage every time. After your first coat of color dries, you can move on to the next coat. Two coats is all you'll need with most nail polishes. Some are designed to do the job in only one coat.

Manicures are fun to do in groups. No matter how old you are, it can be really enjoyable to get your best girlfriends together for a mani-pedi session. You can paint each other's toenails and talk about anything and everything. Try serving appetizers, gourmet chocolates and playing a DVD of a favorite soap opera or television show. Your friends will love these sessions so much they'll ask you to host them every week!

Your manicure stories can go from being horror stories to being success stories. If you're not satisfied with your current nail salon, find another or do your nails yourself. A little effort can pay off in the end. When you glimpse your prettily polished nails, you get a little boost of pleasure and confidence. A good manicure is an easy way to tell yourself you're worth it!
